A stunning Tall ship and huge sail boat, the magical sights of the oceans. A huge sailing yacht in PORTIMAO marina. The sights you see can be breath- taking. A tall ship in PORTIMAO. I counted 26 sails.
The dream becomes reality. We sailed South, to the ALGARVE in PROTUGAL!!! On 24th July 2021, we started our epic journey, from Maryport in the UK. Sailing and living onboard OCEAN STRIDER. Continuing South for more than 1,000 miles, as the crow flies. Sailing roughly 1,500, nautical miles, to our destinations on the way. We’veContinue reading “A Sailing dream, Now a Reality.”
Sailing the dream. Long distance cruising on our sail boat for 2 months, with more than a 1,000 miles under our belts, on our electric powered sail boat “OCEAN STRIDER” has been a valuable experience. We left Maryport in Cumbria, UK, on 24 Jul 2021, and arrived at Peniche, on the Atlantic coast of PortugalContinue reading “Living our dream, learning lots.”
A lot of catching up. My phone has been lost, my fault. Most images are gone. Second half of the Bay of Biscay, 150 miles from land & heavy seas. Both feeling ill and somewhat down in the dumps. No VHF radio contact, no sat phone, drive had tripped and the out-hall snapped, looking veryContinue reading “Bay of Biscay, my electric drive learning curve and our track.”
Crossing the Bay of Biscay. A 3-day stopover in, Brest/Marina Du Chateau was relaxing. The surrounding area is busy with bars and just what we needed. Brest itself is perfect for re-stocking your boat. Marina Du Chateau have a fantastic service, free use push bikes (150 Euro deposit). Which we took advantage and rode toContinue reading “Part 1: Crossing the Bay.”
Phone got drowned on the crossing, internet, images and communication lost. Hope I can bring it back to life. Arrived in Ares, Northern Spain 27.08.2021 after a 340 mile, 3 day and 3.5 hours crossing from Brest in France. What a trip!! Near El Ferrol, the hardest trip we ever made.
I read it somewhere “You have to plan, not to plan”. Newlyn, here we come and not the Silly’s :-> You can’t plan to far ahead when you are sailing. The date was the 16th August, almost 3 weeks after leaving Maryport. On schedule!! Our priority is to cross the Bay of Biscay before stormyContinue reading “Rounding Land’s End, heading for Newlyn.”
Its hard to get off the hamster wheel. Using the electric drive/engine, when not needed, wasn’t going to teach us anything. Its a tough learning curve. Carbon free if possible “yes” but a skipper has a responsibility to the crew/wife, RNLI & self. For emergency’s only. I fitted a Hyundai 7kw, air cooled, LPG siteContinue reading “Making our way South.”
We were retuning from Kirkcudbright on the West, Scottish Coast bordering England. We were lucky to get this unexpected display, by a small group of DOLPHINS. They carried on for a while, so we just went round in circles until they stopped. We would love you to like the video and follow us: Click theContinue reading “A fantastic encounter with DOLPHINS”
The 2nd stage of our travels. Robinson Cruisers, Carbon Free Sailing with Ocean Strider. 25 July 2021: We left Whitehaven, on a sunny day and managed to sail most of the way to Barrow In Furness, with a following wind. Most of our sailing on this day was running, with our sails gull-winged. Meaning theContinue reading “Whitehaven to Barrow In Furness.”
