Whitehaven to Barrow In Furness.

The 2nd stage of our travels.

Robinson Cruisers, Carbon Free Sailing with Ocean Strider.

25 July 2021: We left Whitehaven, on a sunny day and managed to sail most of the way to Barrow In Furness, with a following wind. Most of our sailing on this day was running, with our sails gull-winged. Meaning the fore sail over one side and the main sail the other. See image below.

Gull-winged sails.

Our friends who left Maryport just before us, carried onto Barrow In Furness when we stopped at Whitehaven. They had to motor a lot of the way due to lack of wind.

Our aim is to sail, using weather forecast for planning when we travel/sail , we would ruin our batteries if we motor to much. In electric powers defense, if we used a diesel engine all the time, we couldn’t finance this trip. So we wait for the wind to take us where we want to go, if possible.

Above is an image of a couple of baby dolphins we saw on our way.

We made it to Barrow In Furness “Peil Island” at 21.50h.

As we entered the estuary we saw a large group of seals. There is lots of wild life at sea, its awesome to see it.
